I like big sweeping statements, they cover a multitude of anything like an oversized comedy rented tarpaulin, statements like: humans do very little for the most part except abuse each other and lie about their activities. If the human social construct were represented as a mandelbrot set you'd get the larger lies and coverups by governments and transnational companies at the macro scale and as you dive down into the complexity, roughly the same lies and backstabbing would be evident at the individual scale, and as you dive further, these lies and greedy flaws carried by individuals then form and influence the corruption in the larger organisations, check out the headlines anywhere anytime - corrupt politician found out, street violence, disabled people mugged, the list goes on.

Euthanisia is a touchy subject, liberals point quite rightly to the choice of the individual to determine how they live their life and if they so chose, the time of their death. Social conservatives say you can't trust anyone not to kill a relative (or even a stranger) for nefarious reasons or to abuse the system (and seeing the state of the GOP and their crazy politics based on exploiting and abusing the population i can see why they'd think that) and because of this we should all submit to the loving arms of the state who will care and nurture us equally.

As i'm a social liberal i believe the option to chose my time and method of death is my human right provided it doesn't impact anyone else, the NHS currently operates a form of 'slow euthanasia' whereby deathly ill people are kept so full of morphine and sustained by machines that they're effectively dead already, but just taking up a bed, because the NHS can't be seen to be making decisions on the behalf of the patient, so that's nice and productive.

If you want to end it all because your body is broken for whatever reason you have to drag yourself through the high courts to try and obtain a decision only to have the highest court in the land say "we're not making a decision in case someone calls us on it" i call it 'Rule by Cowardice' or 'The Law of the Meek' and we should be disgusted by the slimy wig wearing fucks who are afraid to do their job just in case someone shouts at them in the future.

The english love their pets, we're noted for it, most of europe will happily throw animals out of bell towers or death by a thousand cuts for fun and entertainment, it's no coincidence that animal cruelty and the influence of the catholic church go hand in hand, that biblical line about how [sic] 'all plants and animals are there for the sole use of man to do with as he wants' means that humans can take out their bloodlust on innocent animals rather than (or as well as) actively killing each other, and the catholic church's stand on this is clear - do what you like, murder jews, kill animals, bugger altar-boys, just don't question our authority and leave our power structure alone. The clearest indication that there could be a merciful god (which there isn't) would be a fifteen to twenty metre diameter, solid iron meteorite hitting vatican city, for a religion always looking for signs and portents how could they ignore that one, although i'm willing to bet they'd chalk that one up to scientific chance, cherry picking scum.

So we love our pets so much that when they become ill and broken we euthanise them for their own comfort, rather a peaceful opiate death than a violent, fatal seizure, and we do this because we care, but we don't care enough to extend this to people just in case it's abused by inheritance seeking children or conmen, irrespective of the fact that inheritance seeking children are bumping off their parents all the time, sometimes they're caught sometimes not, and conmen people have been ripping off the vulnerable and elderly since the beginning of time, at least if euthanasia were legal there'd be regulatory hoops and hurdles to be negotiated so anything devious would show up straight away by comparison.

I returned to work today from an aborted trip to the audio shop to find a bunny in advanced stages of myxxy nibbling on leaves in the car park, myxomatosis is a horrible disease and my buns are vaccinated because they have health cover, this bun had no BUPA and wasn't in a good way, i found a box, caught the bun and took it to the local vets for them to 'help' with the condition.

Do i feel bad - a little, hastening death is a big responsibility, would i do it again - absolutely, poor little fucker, blind and tumorous is no way to live even if you are still alive, if the alternative is a car tyre or a fox then lethal injection is a relief.

RIP Bun Jon Doe i hope it's better for you now
